You will find out about:
This module aims to provide a biomedical basis for obesity and describe nutritional strategies for tackling obesity and related conditions. The module focuses on tackling obesity in the UK, although will include global research to support the understanding of obesity. The module will integrate the pathophysiology of obesity in a framework of social, cultural and individual perceptions.
Learning Outcomes: the activity should enable the participant to:
1. Justify succinctly in a popular science journal a nutritional therapists approach to weight loss taking account of complex, conflicting and/or contradictory data
2. Influence the learning of self and peers through appropriate peer-review of articles for professional publication and thoughtful consideration of how peer-review might influence treatment decisions for overweight and obese individuals.
3. Critically evaluate justifications given for a nutritional therapy weight loss strategy taking account of overweight and obese individuals.
4. Draw on a range of sources of evidence to justify a nutritional therapy approach to weight loss.
5. Positively influence the beliefs and attitudes of the ‘popular’ scientist through rational and rigorous representation of a nutritional therapy approach to weight loss.
